We invite students of Architecture, Engineering, and Urban Planning (Bachelor and Master level) to apply for the international Blended Intensive Programme “Re-adapt the Ruin”, focused on transforming neglected and vacant urban spaces into vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community assets.

🌱 Programme Highlights

This BIP brings together students from across Europe to collaboratively explore and develop adaptive reuse strategies that combine innovation, sustainability, and community impact. Through a mix of virtual learning and in-person workshops, participants will co-create design solutions for real-life vacant spaces in Limbaži, Latvia.

The programme is rooted in the European strategy for sustainable and inclusive development and emphasizes practical action, multidisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.

🎯 Objectives & Outcomes

🔹 Learn to reimagine abandoned urban spaces with a focus on adaptive reuse
🔹 Explore sustainable building materials and technologies
🔹 Develop multidisciplinary collaboration skills
🔹 Gain insight into community-led design and proximity economy
🔹 Participate in a real-world intervention project in a selected location
🔹 Create a comprehensive design proposal, including social and environmental strategies

💻 Virtual Component (May 26–30)

Before arriving in Latvia, participants will join five online preparatory lectures, explore the project themes, and begin initial research and concept development via MS Teams.

Day 1: Arrival and settling in
Day 2: Introductions, site visits, initial assessments
Day 3: Collaborative workshops & technical sessions
Day 4: Project refinement, community discussions, expert input
Day 5: Final presentations & feedback
Day 6: Departure
