Practical Approach for Teaching Circular Economy

Nordplus

The aims of the project are to develop a joint curriculum for teaching circular economy, find out best pedagogical practices and connect labor market to development work and teaching of circular economy. Created different sized circular economy modules and best pedagogical solutions will be gathered into a common toolbox. Modules and didactic solutions can thereby be used in appropriate combinations for specific purposes.

The project “Practical Approach for Teaching Circular Economy” is implemented with the support of Nordplus programme.

On September 27 – 28, 2017, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences researchers A. Liviņa, V.Zaķis and Knowledge and Technology Centre (ZTC) project manager L.Fišere organized an international seminar for the participants of the project on the topical issues and challenges of circular economy in order to prepare an intensive study course on the circular economy. The first day of the seminar was held at the company ZAAO waste landfill in Daibe, where the company's project manager Mārtiņš Niklass introduced the participants with the company and highlighted the problems and challenges in the circular economy development. Natālija Cudecka-Puriņa from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development explained the twists and turns in the policy development of circular economy. While the professor of Riga Technical University Tatjana Tambovceva (jointly with the professor of Banking Institution of Higher Education Dzintra Atstāja) presented the study on the circular economy in the content of business management study programmes in Latvia. Thus, triple helix model was used in practice.

The second day of the seminar took place at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Smart Lab with the main task of developing the content for the international study course, defining the knowledge and skills to be acquired. The work was led by ViA researcher Jana Simanovska and ViA student Armands Aivo Astukevičs helped by taking the notes during the brainstorm.

The University of Liepaja attended the seminar in a large number, as it provided the opportunity for acquiring knowledge and experience to four Master's students, including two students from Pakistan. Students were especially pleased with the opportunity to visit businesses.

The next project partners’ meeting will take place on November 13 – 15, 2017, in Kaunas in order to learn the most appropriate methods of teaching circular economy.

The programme for the seminar in ViA

Project meeting was held on 23 -25 January 2018 in Tallinn, Estonia. V.Zaķis and M.Leščevica took part in meeting. The main purpose of the meeting was to elaborate project proposal of intensice study course on circular economy for the next call of Nordplus programm. During the meeting, we had opportunity to visit company.

Power of Education: fostering mobility for cooperation of EU and Eastern Europe

The goal of the project is to establish a network of higher educational establishments and other parties involved through collaboration of EU and 6 East-European countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), ensuring exchange of students and staff, thus improving the students’ experience and cooperation among the higher schools.

Type of project: Erasmus Mundus

Implementation period: 01.09.2013. - 31.08.2017.

Total budget: 3 241 900 EUR

Main activities:

  • Preparation and implementation of mobility for 170 students and 30 staff representatives
  • Networking activities of partnering higher schools
  • Development of long-term studies and research contacts
  • Synergy formation among the higher education establishments, involved representatives of business and society, thus strengthening the suitability of the studies offered by the higher schools to the demands of market and society.

Nordplus Higher Education project "Express Mobility for Tourism students"

The goal of the project is to provide an opportunity for the students of tourism management and tourist guide programs of gaining additional experience in an international environment, acquire the tourism product specifics of another country and supplement theoretical and practical knowledge in tourism organisation and management.

Type of project: Nordplus higher education

Implementation period: 01.09.2016. – 30.06.2017.

Total budget: 9600 EUR

Main activities:

  • Include a short (express) mobility into the existing courses, thus adding an international and practical touch to the study contents; carry out this mobility in close cooperation with teaching staff from all partnering institutions – including mobility of lecturers;
  • Carry out express mobility trips for student groups from Latvia to Estonia and Finland, from Estonia to Finland;
  • Evaluate the students’ reports and gains from the international experience in the study course.

Nordplus network Ekoteknord

The goal of the project is to foster the mobility of students and lecturers in the spheres of business, IT, engineering, logistics, communication and media, as well as fostering cooperation with enterprises in supplying internship, organising visits to enterprises and guest-lectures by representatives from enterprises.

Economic Policy Analysis of the USSR Occupation Period
